The Surendran Lab at Sanford Research has an opening for a Research Specialist to investigate the plasticity and cell type remodeling capacity of the adult kidney and molecular mechanisms by which epithelial cell types are maintained in a mature and functional state. This research will provide an opportunity to learn mouse genetic tools, molecular biology and biochemical approaches to addressing biomedical problems. Assists other research investigators by performing non-complex research and experimentation following established protocols. Performs routine lab and equipment maintenance, such as cleaning glassware, counter tops, and equipment. May be responsible for calibration of instruments. Sets-up and operates various scientific apparatus. Assists with research projects. Makes intellectual contributions to current research activities and contributes to the design of experiments and new techniques. Prepares and weighs samples for testing and analysis. Conducts tests, assays and other protocols as needed and under supervision. Properly documents procedural actions as well as results. Analyzes and/or summarizes findings. Reviews and researches current literature as directed related to current research projects. Basic or general knowledge of laboratory procedures required. May be expected to perform more complex scientific techniques, such as isolate and maintain various cell types in culture, including stem cells and perform studies involving animal models. May also be expected to know techniques specific to the research program. As a multi-site institution, occasional local travel between sites may be required.
