About The Position

Emory University’s School of Medicine, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented Research Specialist to join an immunology research laboratory. Under general supervision, the specialist performs defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and schedules, and sets up experiments as directed by the principal investigator. The role may also involve laboratory maintenance, including sterilizing and cleaning equipment, ordering supplies, managing inventory, and preparing media. The specialist maintains records of work in laboratory notebooks and databases and compiles study data and results for publications, grants, and seminar presentations. Work with potentially hazardous agents may require specific precautions or immunization. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with mouse techniques—including injections, tissue harvesting, and specimen processing—and mammalian cell culture. Flow cytometry and ELISA experience are advantageous. The laboratory provides training in its experimental models and opportunities to develop technical independence, present data at group meetings, and earn authorship on scientific manuscripts. Tasks are generally performed in person at an Emory University location; remote-work days may be granted at the department’s discretion, and the university may change remote-work status with notice.
