About The Position

A full-time position for a Research Specialist is immediately available in the Department of Microbiology in the laboratory of Dr. Michela Locci. The research goal of the laboratory is to elucidate the immunobiology of T follicular helper (Tfh) cells and antibody responses in health and disease. The Research Specialist will perform basic immunology experiments using in vivo mouse models, cell cultures and analysis of samples by flow cytometry and histology. Additionally, the work will include general laboratory maintenance duties and management of our mouse colony. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, motivated, able to work efficiently, carefully record and organize experiments, sustain independent projects as well as work as a member of a team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Immunology or related fields and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with at least 2-3 years of laboratory experience in small animal model biology is preferred.
  • Experience with flow cytometry is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Mouse work. Maintain mouse colony; mouse husbandry and genotyping.
  • Performing in vivo experiments including IP drug adminstration, footpad immunization, viral infection, blood collection, retro-orbital, cell transfer, tissue dissection (lymph nodes, spleen, etc.)
  • Tissue culture work. Preparation of single cell suspensions from various tissues, especially lymph nodes, spleen, tonsil and blood.
  • Cell isolation/enrichment by magnetic beads or flow cytometry.
  • Set up of invitro cell culture and functional assays
  • Moleulcar biology. DNA/RNA purification: cDNA preparation : PCR amplification, qPCR
  • General Laboratory Maintenance. Solution preparation, autoclaving of pipette tips, stocking tissue; culture room, ordering reagents and supplies
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Position contingent upon funding.
