About The Position

Automated Tire (ATI) is a Series-B startup revolutionizing automotive service with innovative robotic and software technology. Founded by experienced entrepreneurs and backed by major players in the automotive and tire sectors, ATI is building the next generation of tools that make tire shops and dealership service lanes faster, safer, and smarter. If you're passionate about building products that ship into real-world environments, ATI is the place for you. We are seeking a Research Software Engineer to lead the architectural design of our research software ecosystem and serve as the primary bridge to production. In this role, you will replace ad hoc tooling with unified infrastructure, standardize engineering practices across the team, and collaborate with product engineers to translate research algorithms into high-impact, production-grade systems.

  • 4–7 years in software engineering
  • BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
  • Strong software architecture and system design expertise
  • Proven track record of defining clean APIs and integrating cross-functional software systems
  • Solid engineering core: testing, documentation, version control, and AI-assisted development tools
  • Ability to refactor and optimize code written by scientific domain experts
  • High degree of autonomy and alignment with overall research and product goals

Nice To Haves

  • Background in a research, scientific, or R&D engineering environment
  • Proficiency with MATLAB or scientific Python (NumPy, pandas, SciPy)
  • Experience bridge-building between research prototypes and production systems
  • Strong interest in collaborating closely with researchers in an embedded R&D context

Responsibilities

  • Architect and maintain shared software infrastructure, tools, and data pipelines across the research team
  • Consolidate disparate internal tools into scalable, reusable frameworks to eliminate redundant development
  • Design robust APIs and interfaces connecting experimental code with production systems
  • Partner with software product teams to productionize complex research algorithms
  • Establish software engineering standards, version control workflows, code review practices, and AI-assisted tooling guidelines
  • Refactor and harden experimental code from domain experts while maintaining scientific integrity
  • Mentor researchers on software best practices and monitor ongoing development to streamline workflows

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package
