About The Position

The Colorado Program for Skeletal Research group within the Department of Orthopedics is seeking a Research Services Entry Professional. Responsibilities will include the responsibility for projects aimed at understanding musculoskeletal biology in homeostasis and disease. This position will require conducting basic husbandry for laboratory mice and zebrafish. In addition, the successful candidate will assist senior personal with genotyping, data collection and supporting routine laboratory operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year of experience working with laboratory mice or zebrafish, or other wet-lab experience.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
  • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • An understanding of basic biological concepts

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet laboratory

Responsibilities

  • Mouse husbandry including feeding special diets, weaning and mating. May requiring giving injections to mice.
  • Routine isolation of nucleic acid from harvested tissues from mice and zebrafish
  • PCR for genotyping purposes.
  • Husbandry for zebrafish including feeding special diets and mating.
  • Preparation of stock solutions, pouring plates for bacterial studies, inventory keeping of lab supplies.
