About The Position

This is an Entry Research Services Laboratory Sciences position that will support the laboratory of Dr. Ethan Hughes at the University of Colorado School of Medicine at the Department of Cell & Developmental Biology. This job entails analyzing oligodendrocyte lineage cells by longitudinal in vivo multi-photon imaging, image analysis, and behavioral interventions. The position also entails immunohistochemistry, careful record keeping, and handling of small animals for experimentation. Extensive use of imaging and behavior techniques are involved. If time permits, the professional will led independent research projects within the laboratory. In addition, the professional will be involved in updating and formulating animal protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Psychology or other scientific discipline appropriate to the job.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Knowledge of human stem cell research techniques
  • Knowledge of mouse pancreas research techniques
  • Ability to analyze immunofluorescent data
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
  • Willing to work with cells, tissues and laboratory mice

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigator (PI) and lab members with laboratory and research functions
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects
  • Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research
  • Maintenance of a laboratory inventory. Ordering and restocking reagents for the laboratory.
  • Maintenance and genotyping of mouse colonies.
  • Maintenance of mouse and human cell cultures.
  • Molecular cloning
  • In vitro knockdown experiments using siRNA followed by quantitative analysis of gene expression.
  • Assist in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required
