About The Position

The Research Senior Technician will assist and support scientific investigation within the Comprehensive Cancer Center. This role involves independently conducting assigned experiments, performing a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques, and managing laboratory operations. The technician will also be involved in data analysis, record-keeping, and training junior staff and students.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in a biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education is required.
Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required.

Responsibilities

Independently conducts assigned experiments.
Performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Northern and Western analysis.
Sorts and processes tissue and blood samples.
Tests and evaluates current procedures.
Performs routine procedures on lab animals.
Records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results.
Assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures.
Summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts.
Prepares research progress reports.
Assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts.
Conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature.
Oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities.
Assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation.
Sets up and operates laboratory equipment.
Monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.
