About The Position

The Department of Physiology and Cell Biology at The Ohio State University is seeking a Research Senior Technician to assist and support scientific investigations into mitochondrial dysfunction. This role involves independently conducting assigned experiments using a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques. The technician will also be responsible for testing and evaluating current procedures, performing routine procedures on lab animals, recording and analyzing research data, and assisting the principal investigator with data consolidation, grant proposals, manuscripts, publications, and presentations. Additionally, the role includes conducting literature reviews, maintaining laboratory records, and assisting with the training of junior research staff and students. The technician will also manage laboratory equipment and monitor research supplies.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.
4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED.
2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree.
0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree.
Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required.
Organized, detail-oriented, able to work both independently and collaboratively.
Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

Independently conduct assigned experiments to study mitochondrial dysfunction.
Perform a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques including PCR, gel electrophoresis, cell culture, live-cell imaging, mitochondrial isolation, and Western analysis.
Test and evaluate current procedures.
Perform routine procedures on lab animals.
Record, consolidate, and assist with the analysis of research results.
Assist in evaluating the validity of data obtained from experimental procedures.
Summarize data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts.
Prepare research progress reports.
Assist the principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts.
Conduct library research on requested topics through researching current literature.
Oversee and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities.
Assist with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation.
Set up and operate laboratory equipment.
Monitor research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiate procurement requests as needed.
