About The Position

The Research Senior Technician will assist and support scientific investigation as directed in the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology. This role involves independently conducting assigned experiments and performing a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures. Responsibilities include PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures, Northern and Western analysis, sorting and processing tissues, testing and evaluating current procedures, and performing routine procedures on lab animals. The technician will also record, consolidate, and assist with the analysis of research results, evaluate the validity of data, and summarize data for grant proposals and manuscripts. Additionally, they will prepare research progress reports, assist the principal investigator with publications, conduct library research, maintain accurate records of laboratory activities, and assist with training junior staff and students. Setting up and operating laboratory equipment, and monitoring and initiating procurement requests for research supplies are also key duties.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.
4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED.
2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree.
0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree.
Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required.

Responsibilities

Independently conducts assigned experiments.
Performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Northern and Western analysis.
Sorts and processes tissues.
Tests and evaluates current procedures.
Performs routine procedures on lab animals.
Records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results.
Assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures.
Summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts.
Prepares research progress reports.
Assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts.
Conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature.
Oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities.
Assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation.
Sets up and operates laboratory equipment.
Monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.
