About The Position

This position is for a Research Senior Technician to assist and support scientific investigation into epilepsy at Dr. Bin Gu’s lab within the Department of Neuroscience. The role involves independently conducting experiments, participating in the development and implementation of study goals, designing and executing complex laboratory experiments, and performing advanced molecular and cellular techniques. Responsibilities also include managing and handling laboratory animals, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting research data, and assisting with the development and implementation of new research methodologies. The technician will test experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods, making recommendations for their utilization. They will also assist in establishing controls, criteria, and research standards, and perform critical analysis of relevant literature. Additionally, the role involves assisting in the preparation of research papers, manuscripts for publication and presentation, and project reports. The technician will support the principal investigator in preparing proposals for funding, coordinate laboratory activities and work assignments of other staff, and oversee periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree.
  • 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree.
  • Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Research experience with miRNA.
  • Research experience with reverse transcription quantitative PCR.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conducts assigned experiments.
  • Participates in developing and implementing goals and objectives of studies.

  • Assists principal investigator in the preparation of proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research.
  • Coordinates laboratory activities and work assignments of postdoctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and laboratory research staff.
  • Oversees and coordinates periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
