About The Position

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist located in Lake Jackson, TX. This role will reside with-in Dow's Industrial Solutions Energy Platform and the selected candidate will join a high performing R&D team of engineers and scientists collaborating on Gas Treating and Carbon Capture focused Innovation. The candidate will have ample opportunity for R&D project leadership, direct customer engagement, and contribution towards business development. The work of this team will be implemented in the 5 global regions: Europe, North America, Latin America, Middle East / Africa, and Asia Pacific.

Requirements

  • B.S in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemistry, Process Engineering, Energy Engineering, or Environmental Engineering or similar field required.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant industry/field experience required.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
  • No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process
  • Strong understanding of vapor-liquid equilibrium, heat and mass transfer, and process separations.
  • Demonstrated experience in process engineering in midstream and natural gas processing applications, including gas sweetening and gas dehydration through deployment of formulated amine solutions.
  • Expertise in process simulation and modeling with platforms such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, ProTreat, UNISIM, or ProMax.
  • Proven excellent ability to collaborate with stakeholders in various business functions (sales, marketing, TS&D, etc) as well as external customers.
  • Active Listening to understand customer needs, collaborating with teams, and responding thoughtfully.
  • Demonstrated ability to both lead and be a team player, in planning and executing projects with cross-functional teams and resources to achieve maximum productivity towards decisions or milestones in a timely manner.
  • Ability to write code including custom modules for process simulators and/or scripting for analysis of simulation results
  • Demonstrated background in intellectual property including patent filing, competitive analysis, prior art searches.
  • Strong track record of innovation documentation in journals and patents

  • This position requires approximately up to 10% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct chemical process modeling for the design of gas treating plants using alkanolamine and glycol-based solvents for gas sweetening and dehydration applications.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in gas treating process simulation, working with established proprietary (ProComp) and commercial simulator platforms.
  • Perform Technoeconomic analysis including capital and operating cost estimation for complex processes.
  • Create process design packages by means of established engineering practice, process simulation, empirical design guidelines to extend Dow’s gas treating Innovation portfolio.
  • Interface effectively with multiple stakeholders across different functions (Research & Development, Technical Sales & Development, Commercial and Marketing).
  • Interface with laboratory teams for development of physical, chemical, and thermophysical properties and that operate pilot plant facilities.
  • Monitor competition and market trends relative to Dow intellectual capital positions and integrate the information into group activities and projects
  • Support ideation and pipeline filling for a global R&D project portfolio, and as applicable, generate intellectual property.
  • Document work in company-internal research reports.
  • Publish external papers for targeted technical marketing venues, including prominent trade journals and conferences.
  • Undertake Dow safety training and exhibit excellent safety mindset.
