About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Scientist. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for collaborating with Principal Investigators (PIs) and contributing independently to the scientific mission of the Epidemiology of Aging Studies in ESKD (EASE) Lab within the Center for Surgical and Transplant Applied Research (CSTAR). The Research Scientist supports the design, implementation, analysis, and dissemination of research studies, contributes scientific expertise to multidisciplinary projects, and mentors junior research personnel while working under the direction of senior investigators.

Requirements

  • MS degree and 2-4 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of experience with transplant, nephrology, epidemiology, or health services research.
  • Experience working with SRTR, USRDS, CMS claims, or electronic health record data.
  • Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations.
  • Experience mentoring junior research staff or trainees.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Principal Investigators and multidisciplinary research teams to develop, implement, and evaluate research studies aligned with the EASE Lab's scientific mission.
  • Independently conduct statistical analyses and interpret findings under the guidance of the Director of the EASE Lab.
  • Perform statistical analysis the Center for Surgical and Transplant Applied Research (CSTAR), utilizing a variety of data sources, including: Electronic health records (Epic, Cosmos), Community-based health and demographic surveys, Project-specific surveys and assessments, National registries, including the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) and United States Renal Data System (USRDS), Administrative datasets, including Medicare and Medicaid claims, Prospective cohort data, Other relevant datasets, including socioeconomic and environmental data sources.
  • Assist in the development of research protocols, study methodologies, and statistical analysis plans.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of research techniques, analytic methods, and data management processes.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of assigned research projects while maintaining data integrity and compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation, scientific abstracts, presentations, and reports as an author or co-author.
  • Assist with the preparation of grant applications, progress reports, and other research-related documents.
  • Coordinate research activities with investigators, collaborators, trainees, and research staff across multiple projects.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve scientific, analytic, and operational challenges encountered during the conduct of research.
  • Maintain current knowledge of advances in epidemiology, biostatistics, transplantation, aging, and related scientific fields through literature review and participation in scientific meetings and conferences.
  • Mentor research coordinators, data analysts, students, and trainees by providing guidance on study methods, data analysis, and scientific best practices.
  • Participate in the planning, execution, and dissemination of research activities that support the strategic goals of the EASE Lab and CSTAR.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
