About The Position

Ultradent, a global name in oral health, is seeking a Research Scientist to join our R&D team at our headquarters in Salt Lake City. The Scientist will work with an interdisciplinary team that develops new dental materials and devices. This position requires a drive to innovate and explore new materials in the dental industry. Experience in developing ideas from concept to prototype is highly recommended. Experience with photo/radical induced polymerization techniques, medical device research, microbiology/tissue management techniques, and/or a related field is preferred. Candidates with a background in the following are encouraged to apply: chemical engineering, polymers, chemistry, material science, medical device research, and biomedical engineering.

Requirements

  • B.S. in a related field (polymer, composites, chemistry, or materials science) with 2+ years of research experiences preferred.
  • M.S. or PhD in a related field (polymer, composites, chemistry, or materials science).
  • Motivated to work with a multifunctional team.
  • The ability to complete work duties or assignments in a timely manner.
  • The ability to communicate results orally, in writing, or possibly in a presentation.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Passion for completing challenging projects.
  • Strong analytical, deductive, and inductive reasoning abilities.
  • Curiosity and the ability to work in a research environment (self-directed and motivated).
  • Mental flexibility and a desire to learn.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in developing ideas from concept to prototype is highly recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and test scientific hypotheses independently or with minimal guidance to achieve desired product performance.
  • Extensive knowledge and familiarity with fundamental material science themes such as structure-property-processing-composition relationships.
  • Experience with making and characterizing materials in a chemical laboratory.
  • Comfortable using common laboratory equipment such as scales, fume hoods, and mixing equipment.
  • Ability and willingness to take ownership of projects and address varied stakeholder needs.
  • Exhibit curiosity and contribute new knowledge and ideas to the R&D department.
  • Effective data communication skills e.g. with Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Thorough data collection and documentation of research activities through ELN and LIMS systems.
  • Perform various biological laboratory techniques and procedures, such as cell culture or other molecular biology techniques.
  • Use advanced instruments and technologies to analyze biological samples.
  • Contribute to the development of new biotechnological products or improvements to existing ones.
  • Has experience evaluating new biological technologies in existing medical devices.
