About The Position

Reports to a departmental director and is responsible for the direction of the research and administrative activities of a research laboratory focused on stress, trauma, and resilience. Prepares, writes and presents research papers and grants. Provides consultation within area of expertise to individuals both internal and external to the hospital. Requirements

  • Requires completion of a Ph.D. or M.D. in the appropriate scientific field.
  • Requires an in-depth knowledge of the scientific field in which research is being performed.
  • Requires supervisory and administrative skills to direct a small group of research assistants.
  • Requires the interpersonal skills to interface both externally and internally to the Hospital.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
  • Requires one year experience in research.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, writes and presents papers for publication as the principal investigator on research projects. Research area should be focused on stress, trauma, and resilience, broadly construed.
  • Identifies internal and external funding opportunities and works with COBRE Center for Stress, Trauma, and Resilience (STAR), the Center for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine, and the Brown University Health Office of Research on completion of grant applications.
  • Responsible for the development of research methodology used.
  • Ensures accurate collection and analysis of data gathered in research experiments.
  • Interprets data using statistical methodology.
  • Assumes primary responsibility for the development, communication and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures for research and administrative functions in a research setting. This includes but is not limited to conforming to all policies/procedures of relevant mandatory committee(s) including IRB and IACUC committees.
  • Supervises postdoctoral fellows, research assistants, and other lab personnel including hiring, training, assigning work to complete, providing feedback, evaluating performance, and when necessary, disciplining.
  • Participates in the development of a coordinated budget. May administer the operational budget.
  • Participates in Hospital and Department committees both research and non-research.
  • Engages with individuals both internal and external to the Hospital to provide professional consultation within area or expertise and to exchange information.
