The Department of Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences seeks a Research Scientist to conduct independent and collaborative research in theoretical atomic physics and astrophysics, with a primary emphasis on the calculation of atomic opacities and their application to astrophysical models. The Department of Astronomy maintains strong research programs and institutional affiliations with major international collaborations, including the Dark Energy Survey (DES), Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS‑IV), Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), and the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT). Faculty and researchers are also engaged in collaborations focused on stellar and quasar variability, supernovae, and other transient phenomena. This position offers the opportunity to work within a vibrant, research‑intensive environment and to contribute meaningfully to cutting‑edge astrophysical research. This position is for a period of 1 year, ended May 31, 2027.
