About The Position

The Ohio State University's Department of Neurological Surgery is seeking a Research Scientist to join their nationally competitive program on neurological disorders. This role involves developing and implementing new research techniques, conducting advanced experiments, and analyzing data. The scientist will also be responsible for writing proposals, managing lab inventory and equipment, and supervising junior research staff and students. A key focus will be on developing micro and nano sensors and stimulators for biomedical applications, including data analysis for both in vitro and in vivo environments.

Requirements

  • Doctorate (Academic) or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Commitment to a high-quality Research.
  • Requires successful completion of a background check.
  • Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and implementation of a nationally competitive program on neurological disorders.
  • Develop and test hypotheses.
  • Plan, design, and implement new research techniques and methodologies in the laboratory.
  • Plan, design, and execute advanced research experiments.
  • Conduct statistical analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of raw data.
  • Develop new and on-going collaborative research opportunities.
  • Write and maintain EHS and IRB proposals.
  • Collaborate with statistical support to meet program needs.
  • Oversee and monitor lab inventory.
  • Direct, supervise, and oversee daily laboratory activities.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely maintenance of research equipment.
  • Assess laboratory strengths and weaknesses towards process improvement and higher efficiency.
  • Develop micro and nano sensors and stimulators for biomedical applications, including data analysis for in vitro and in vivo environments.
  • Design experimental setup and manage data acquisition for systems.
  • Identify and resolve laboratory problems.
  • Ensure, track, and document laboratory productivity and documentation of research on a weekly basis.
  • Serve as primary laboratory contact.
  • Supervise and instruct junior research staff, post-doctoral researchers, undergraduate and graduate students.
