About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist III- Data Analyst at UL Research Institutes. This is a remote-based opportunity. The Research Scientist III works with data, develops preliminary findings, and prepares written reports and data visualizations that supports the research of the Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI). The Research Scientist III works closely with other FSRI leaders and researchers to analyze data, and develop models associated with fire safety science to ensure all processes are accurate and technically sound.

Requirements

  • Expertise in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and hypothesis testing.
  • Experience designing interactive dashboards, reports, and executive-level presentations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern data analysis libraries.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud-based data platforms and analytics environments (AWS, Snowflake, Dash).
  • Ability to collaborate with peers and work directly with Research Scientists and other team members in order to complete a project from start to finish.
  • Ability to serve as lead author on reports and papers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field plus 8 or more years of directly related work experience or Master’s degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field plus 4 or more years of directly related work experience or PhD in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field or equivalent experience plus 2 or more years of directly related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies fundamental knowledge needed to enhance UL Research Institutes’ thought leadership and support the strategy of UL Research Institutes.
  • Applies intensive and diverse knowledge of engineering technology and systems engineering concepts to the specific research tasks.
  • Exercises a high degree of judgment in formulating, evaluating, and correlating broad engineering research concepts and guiding the analysis of unique problems and developing new and improved techniques and methods.
  • Contribute to the development of reusable data products and standardized data models across research domains.
  • Analyzes emergency response data to determine trends and develop solutions.
  • Stays ahead of changing technologies, in the field by reading journals and scientific publications, and attending academic conferences.
  • Plan, design, and complete initial and follow-up tests as needed to validate results.
  • Work with students and teams.
  • Present research results internally or externally as needed.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
