About The Position

The Multimodal Imaging Genetics Lab at Barrow Neuro Analytics Center is in search of a talented and motivated computational biologist to join our dynamic team. Our lab employs cutting-edge bioinformatics and machine learning, including deep learning, to understand brain aging and secondary injury mechanisms across cerebrovascular, neurodegenerative, and traumatic brain diseases. As a Bioinformatics Staff Scientist, you will be responsible for conducting and supervising analysis of large- scale, high-dimensional biological data from biobanks and longitudinal cohorts, and developing innovative computational methods to enhance understanding of cerebrovascular and Alzheimer’s disease interactions, and drive development of mechanism-based treatments for dementia. We seek a self-driven, innovative individual with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and exceptional communication skills.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistical Genetics, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience with GWAS data analysis, population genetics, or single-cell genomics
  • Strong understanding of complex disease genetics and population structure
  • Prior work in complex disease genetics research, including analysis of large cohorts or biobank-scale datasets

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with pathway analysis, polygenic risk scores, or Mendelian randomization is a plus
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals related to human genetics or genomics
  • Proficiency in programming with R, Unix/Linux, and/or Python
  • Experience with genetic analysis tools (e.g., PLINK, GCTA, METAL)
  • Experience with high-performance computing environments
  • Working knowledge of machine learning (AI/ML) algorithms and their applications in bioinformatics

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for operational oversight and implementation of funded translational research program(s) in genomics
  • Plans and executes bioinformatics analysis on high-throughput genomics (including single cell) and proteomics data, integration and analysis of multi-omics data
  • Participates in the development and application of computational algorithms and statistical models for data analysis and interpretation, and development of data analysis pipelines.
  • Develops and establishes data analysis pipelines
  • Serves as a liaison for the training of technical personnel in the translational program including post-doctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students
