About The Position

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Research Scientist I position at the NYS Office of Mental Health in the Office of Population Health and Evaluation's Bureau of Data Science. The Bureau of Data Science seeks a research scientist to support federally required reporting, criminal justice related research, and data analytics that inform mental health program evaluation and operational decision-making. This role will include developing and maintaining data infrastructure for analytics, processing and analyzing large administrative datasets, and supporting analytic reporting and research dissemination. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, with strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively and able to manage multiple concurrent projects in a deadline-driven environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of professional research experience in an appropriate field or master's degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of the experience.
  • Ph.D. in an appropriate field may substitute for an additional year of experience

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of professional experience in data analysis, reporting, or data visualization
  • 1 year of experience using SQL for data analysis and script or stored procedure development
  • 1 year of experience running statistical analyses using SAS, Python, or R
  • 1+ year of experience working with administrative health or criminal justice data
  • 1+ year of experience contributing to research manuscripts, technical reports, or publications

Responsibilities

  • Support federal and state reporting requirements through data preparation, validation, analysis, and documentation
  • Develop and maintain data infrastructure and analytic pipelines, including manual script development to support recurring and ad hoc analyses
  • Process and analyze large administrative datasets, including mental health and criminal justice data
  • Develop business intelligence reports, tables, visualizations, and analytic summaries for internal stakeholders
  • Apply statistical tools and techniques to explore data, identify patterns, and support program evaluation
  • Design and implement data workflows and visualizations, working with a small team of developers and analysts
  • Assist with research manuscript writing, technical reports, reviews, and analytic summaries
