The Research Scientist I is expected to have foundational understanding in both the theoretical and practical aspects of the following disciplines: Molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, insect cell culture, microbiology, protein purification and characterization, and protein crystallography. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology or related field
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must pass a drug screen
  • May be required to pass Occupational Health Screening

Responsibilities

  • Produce cell pellets and purified recombinant proteins using literature references, in-house standard operating protocols (SOPs)
  • Characterize purified protein using SDS-PAGE, analytical HPLC and protein concentrations
  • Record experimental outcomes and recommendations in appropriate notebooks, reports and databases within the timelines provided by supervisor
  • Conduct literature searches on new methods of generating biological materials
  • Share findings and recommendations with supervisor and peers.
  • Organize work time so that several tasks or projects are run concurrently.
  • Use time efficiently to complete tasks and produce products of desired quality on schedule.
  • Ensure that all necessary paperwork is completed on a timely basis
  • Recommend and implement methods to increase the quality of products and/or services
  • Keep accurate, legible and complete records of all experiments and observations.
  • Record all appropriate data electronically in Curia’s databases
  • Submit acceptable written periodic reports.
  • Prepare summaries of experimental findings reliably and independently
  • Discuss routinely with supervisor the status of assigned programs and potential problems.
  • Communicate orally and in writing unexpected occurrences which could adversely affect established timetables
  • Conduct laboratory operations in a safe manner.
  • Maintain familiarity with the Safety Manual.
  • Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices.
  • Follow responsible actions regarding chemical, radiological and biological disposal.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulations at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Practice preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment and replenish laboratory supplies as stock is depleted to prevent laboratory “down-time”
