About The Position

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia is seeking to fill the position of Research Scientist/ Research Associate position to study how neuronal and immune systems shape the microenvironment of the intervertebral disc degeneration, with the long-term goal of identifying effective therapies to treat back pain, a leading cause of disability along with the study of pathogenesis and potential therapeutics of intervertebral disc degeneration.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or MD/PhD in cell and molecular biology-related fields.
  • Experience in molecular and cellular techniques, including cell culture, in vitro assays, animal handling, flow cytometry, and histological analysis.
  • Effective spoken and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer programs for data compilation and evaluation.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Surgical or clinical experience.
  • Background in immunology.
  • Animal surgical experience.
