About The Position

Under general supervision of a division director or other supervisory official in a state department, institution, or agency, independently initiates and coordinates a research or developed program in a specified professional field; may supervise lower levels of Research Scientists and other technical staff, manages high level technical projects and reports results to designated officials for inter- and intra-agency response; does related work.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in a discipline appropriate to the position.
  • Four (4) years of full-time experience in a field appropriate to the position.
  • A Doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the position may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship, and Immigration Services regulations.
  • Must be technically proficient and experienced in several of the following topics: remediation standards setting and compliance; human-health or ecological risk assessment; vapor intrusion; historic and alternative fill; emerging contaminants; and other site remediation topic.
  • Must also have a proven ability to lead Research Scientist titled staff.

  • Proven ability to apply a broad background of scientific knowledge as well as the rules, regulations and guidance applicable to the Contaminated Site Remediation & Redevelopment program, particularly relating to remediation standards setting and compliance; human-health or ecological risk assessment; vapor intrusion; historic and alternative fill; emerging contaminants; and other site remediation topics.
  • Experience with mentoring highly technical/scientific staff and demonstrate leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Independently initiates and coordinates a research or developed program in a specified professional field.
  • May supervise lower levels of Research Scientists and other technical staff.
  • Manages high level technical projects and reports results to designated officials for inter- and intra-agency response.
  • Leads a group within the Environmental Evaluation Section (EES).
  • Provides technical guidance and mentors Research Scientist staff.
  • Assigns work tasks and conducts administrative and personnel related tasks.
  • Completes ePARS and time sheets in a timely manner.
  • Evaluates staff performance and recommends promotions.
  • Participates in complex Technical Consultations with members of the regulated community.
  • Supports higher levels of management on case specific and more wide-ranging guidance and policy issues.
  • Assists in litigation support of high profile cases.
