About The Position

Provides expert technical advice and guidance in a specialized area of petroleum research, making unique and substantial personal contributions. This position is for individuals with outstanding technical capability who make essential contributions on an individual basis, either with broader experience and demonstrated ability or as an expert in a specialized area. The role involves working in a collaborative research and development environment focused on advanced materials for upstream oil and gas applications, specifically in productivity enhancement (fracturing and matrix stimulation fluids, sand control, water shutoff) to increase production and recovery from conventional and unconventional reservoirs. The position aims to develop new products and technologies to meet the increasing size and complexity of Saudi Aramco's producing operations and related petroleum engineering support. The Engineering Advisor, Senior Engineering Advisor, and Engineering Consultant positions represent increasing levels of recognized competence and ability to communicate technical expertise into practical recommendations. Specialized areas include Reservoir Simulation, Formulation Evaluation, Completions, and Long-Range Planning. Recommendations from these positions have immediate impact on operating procedures and new project definitions, often with significant financial implications. These roles may also lead special task forces to solve problems.

Requirements

  • B.S. in engineering or equivalent technical field.
  • Intensive industry training including appropriate specialized courses and seminars is expected.
  • Typically has ten (10) years of related experience.
  • At least five (5) years of intensive experience in his/her area of expertise.
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend both orally and in writing, accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a high level.
  • Must be clearly recognized by supervisors and colleagues as thoroughly qualified and highly competent in his/her area of expertise.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to communicate ideas clearly, work effectively with others, and utilize technical knowledge to achieve practical results.
  • Management must have confidence in his/her judgment and recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and/or participates in research and development efforts involving advanced materials for upstream oil and gas production applications in productivity enhancement, stimulation fluids, sand control, and unconventional gas.
  • Conducts laboratory work involving advanced materials, their characterization, and oilfield application methodologies.
  • Stays current with significant developments in the field of specialization and industry trends and technologies.
  • Synthesizes or formulates new chemicals, designs customized experimental setups and procedures, and evaluates product performance.
  • Performs material characterization and testing using various analytical instruments and methods (e.g., NMR, FT-IR, TGA, elemental analysis, GC-MS, HPLC).
  • Designs and carries out advanced materials development with minimal supervision in a collaborative research environment.
  • Develops new intellectual property and works with IP personnel to patent developed technology.
  • Disseminates results through high-impact journal publications, reports, and presentations.
  • Manages a safe, accident-free laboratory environment and adheres to all company safety rules.
  • Leads collaborative research with other R&D areas (e.g., organic chemistry, process engineering, applications) to increase intellectual property opportunities and advance business.
  • Serves as a lead scientist or participates in major investigative projects as assigned.
  • Specifies design criteria and relevant operating parameters for the development of BI's and/or new projects within the area of expertise.
  • Participates in project technical reviews and reviews proposals for new or changed operating procedures to ensure efficient and economic operations.
  • Conducts economic studies on cost analysis to resolve alternative courses of action.
  • Originates ideas for improvements, develops a basis for field testing and management review, analyzes results, and recommends new or changed procedures and/or facilities.
  • Recommends, designs, and oversees outside investigations to resolve problems exceeding current engineering knowledge.
  • Represents the company in technical contacts with Shareholders and SAG representatives regarding company procedures or proposed operations.
  • Makes presentations to management, Shareholder Program Review, or Shareholder Technical Meetings.
  • Represents the company in dealings with manufacturers, vendors, and outside consultants.
  • Conducts seminars, prepares manuals, and trains and develops engineers and operating personnel.
