About The Position

The Duke University School of Medicine, established in 1930, is a highly-ranked institution known for its inclusive community of learners, investigators, clinicians, and staff. The Research Scholar position is within the Coyne Lab, which studies pathways by which microorganisms cross cellular barriers, specifically the epithelium of the gastrointestinal tract and placental trophoblasts. The lab's long-term goal is to identify therapeutic targets to prevent or treat microbial infections and reduce associated morbidity and mortality. This role is eligible for hybrid and/or remote work, provided the employee resides in a Duke University-approved state.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.).

Responsibilities

  • Leading the development and execution of non-human primate placental organoid studies.
  • Non-human primate tissue handling, organoid derivation, and cross-species placental biology.
  • Establish, optimize, and characterize primate trophoblast organoid systems, including experimental design, culture conditions, and downstream functional assays.
