About The Position

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) is seeking a Research Physician Assistant for their Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute (MAPRI). This full-time, hybrid role is based in Washington, D.C. The position involves providing specialized clinical care for patients undergoing High-Resolution Anoscopy (HRA) due to abnormal anal cytology results. The Research Physician Assistant will manage the entire patient care process, from screening through treatment and follow-up, while also supporting research initiatives focused on program outcomes, quality improvement, and dissemination of findings. Responsibilities include study design, data analysis, and contributing to scholarly publications and educational activities.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Physician Assistant experience in a hospital or ambulatory care setting.
  • Physician Assistant licensure in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
  • Physician Assistant National Certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire.
  • Completion of International Anal Neoplasia Society (IANS) HRA Course required.
  • Completion of research regulatory and compliance trainings required at hire.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary clinical and research teams.
  • High interest in serving patient populations at high risk for anal cancer.
  • Demonstration of patient focused service skills.
  • Problem-solving, organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to commute to Washington D.C., for in-clinic work responsibilities.
  • Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.
  • Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment.
  • Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment.
  • Responsible for knowing and following all Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, Kaiser Permanente, and Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute policies and procedures.
  • External hires must pass a background check and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience conducting High-Resolution Anoscopy (HRA) procedures strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to or experience in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform High-Resolution Anoscopy (HRA) procedures and manage associated treatment plans and follow-up care for patients across the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Schedule and coordinate patient counseling appointments, procedures, re-screening, and follow-up care while tracking and managing clinical results.
  • Collaborate with Infectious Disease, Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), PRIDE, and interdisciplinary care teams to support high-quality patient-centered care.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and families regarding screening, treatment plans, procedures, and post-procedure care.
  • Develop and maintain workflows and tracking systems to support population health management and continuity of care.
  • Maintain active patient lists and support population management across all service areas.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives by evaluating care pathways, identifying operational challenges, and providing recommendations for process enhancements.
  • Participate in research activities, including study design, data analysis, regulatory compliance, and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Lead educational and in-service training activities for staff and healthcare team members.
  • Supports educational activities such as CMEs, and other educational activities as requested.
