About The Position

Pharmacist Technician Level 3 -5 This position will include rotating shift assignments among the Rochester Methodist Research Pharmacy, the Saint Marys Research Pharmacy, and the Brackenridge Outpatient Research Pharmacy. The schedule involves Monday - Friday eight-hour day shifts with variable start times between 06:00 and 08:30 . Performs technician and clerical support activities associated with the coordination of the Research Support Service of Hospital Pharmacy Services. Duties involve hazardous and nonhazardous dose preparation (oral and IV), maintaining active and closed protocol files, completing protocol-based report forms, providing assistance to auditors and study coordinators, maintaining inventory levels, ordering and receiving new drug supplies, packaging and mailing used and unused study supplies, assuring correct drug accountability records, processing computerized study drug charges and workload statistics, and performing quality management functions. Assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient. Gathers, labels and distributes medications accurately and efficiently. Packages, prepares, and safely compounds medications including hazardous substances accurately and efficiently. Handles, manages and distributes controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies; and assists with drug diversion surveillance. Assists with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications. Effectively communicates utilizing established systems and processes. Assists with training new staff. Commitment: Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic. Requirements

  • Qualifications are based on Level III Technician
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of an approved vocational Pharmacy Technician training program and at least eighteen months of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician; or at least three years of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understands English.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, timeliness and organizational skills.
  • Proven history of effectively performing technical tasks and following written / verbal instructions.
  • Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system.
  • Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with the use of office software computer applications and keyboarding.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail.
  • Proven organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
  • No history of drug abuse or misuse; or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.
  • Current registration with the Board of Pharmacy where required by state regulation.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of post-secondary education preferred.
  • Two years of pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Compounded sterile preparation (CSP) training preferred.
  • Narcotic control, inventory management, or investigational/chemotherapy protocol record keeping experience preferred.
  • Prior experience performing advanced Pharmacy Technician activities preferred.
