About The Position

The Research Pharmacy Technician will partner with and support the Pharmacist/Director of Investigational Drug Services and Oncology Research Site Operations in establishing and managing the Taylor Cancer Research Center’s Investigational Drug Services. In doing so, this position will ensure compliance with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) and Health and Human Services (HHS) in compliance with the program’s Research Standard Operating Procedures. This position is responsible for investigational product accountability and dispensing functions in addition to sterile compounding of hazardous and non-hazardous drugs while following USP 797 and 800 guidelines. This role will also assist with ordering drugs, maintaining supply inventory, and maintaining appropriate records of product disposition. The Research Pharmacy technician will also support the research pharmacist in administrative tasks such as those described in Standard 3 below. Requirements

  • Licensure as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in the state of Ohio.
  • Minimum 3 years sterile compounding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently arrives at work on time and adheres to regular work schedule.
  • Follows all USP 797 and 800 guidelines for compounding hazardous and non-hazardous investigational drug products in the appropriate area of the designated mixing rooms.
  • Works closely with research team staff to ensure accurate and safe preparation and delivery of investigational agents.
  • Maintains cleanliness of mixing areas following USP guidelines.
  • Works with Administrative staff to keep related P&P current and reflecting any changes to meet guidelines.
  • Works closely with Pharmacist/other pharmacy staff to ensure all 797 and 800 guidelines are followed.
  • Assists with maintaining drug inventory and drug orders as needed.
  • Maintains accurate and complete accountability of investigational drug products.
  • Maintains cleanliness of infusion room.
  • Prepares and submits orders for necessary supplies required in the infusion room.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Seeks appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed and assists co-workers as needed.
  • Creating and maintaining research pharmacy binders.
  • Supporting research pharmacist in maintaining revenue tracking.
  • Development and maintenance of educational resources for staff and patients.
  • Supporting research pharmacist in development of treatment regimens.
  • Supporting research team in creation of monthly invoices.
  • Attends patient meetings and applicable in-services to expand knowledge of oncology and research development.
  • Keeps current on all USP 797/800 guidelines.
  • Maintains certifications required for the position.
  • May serve as the super-user for the computer system.
