About The Position

The Research Nurse supports the Neonatology Division’s research agenda at Ascension Seton Medical Center and Dell Children’s Medical Center Austin, taking a lead role in conducting a randomized controlled trial of a novel therapy for apnea of prematurity. The role focuses on patient screening and enrollment, subject record keeping, and timely, accurate completion of case report forms.

The nurse also serves as a resource for the clinical team and supports other NICU research activities. These may include working with the Institutional Research Board (IRB), coordinating clinical and research teams, contributing to funding applications, collecting and processing data, and preparing research findings for presentation and publication.

Requirements

• At least three years of experience as a neonatal Registered Nurse (RN).
• Prior involvement in neonatal or maternal research studies.

Responsibilities

• Lead local conduct of the randomized controlled trial of the Prapela mattress, a novel therapeutic option for apnea of prematurity.
• Serve as a resource for physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other staff conducting the research project.
• Interface with the local Institutional Research Board (IRB).
• Screen and enroll patients in this and other research studies.
• Maintain subject records in research databases.
• Collate data and produce reports on recruitment in clinical research studies.
• Provide updates on the research project during unit meetings.
• Participate in regular meetings relating to other NICU research.
• Review and report adverse events for ongoing projects.
• Participate in Quality Improvement Projects as appropriate.
• Collate and analyze research data.
• Prepare research data for presentation and publication.
• Attend study days and conferences relevant to the unit’s research.
