About The Position

The Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Nurse for the Johns Hopkins Clinical Trials Unit and the Center for ALS Specialty Care. This position will collect and record clinical data and perform relevant histories and physicals as part of clinical research studies. The individual will work directly with patients and physicians, and responsibilities include explaining the planned research to eligible patients and obtaining their informed consent. In addition, the position will assist in the clinical care of patients in the Center for ALS Specialty Care. Efficiency, organization, and time management skills are essential to the position. Under the supervision of the Center Director, the individual will care for patients in research studies as well as work as part of the multidisciplinary care team and work at the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center at the East Baltimore Campus.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related discipline
  • Experience in the Johns Hopkins system
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EPIC).

Responsibilities

  • Recruit eligible participants into clinical research studies and ensure their appropriate clinical care in accordance with the study protocol.
  • Provide patient care in the Center for ALS Specialty Care, a multidisciplinary clinic for patients with ALS.
  • Recruit potential study participants among the patients seen at in the Center for ALS Specialty Care.
  • Explain study procedures to prospective participants, including conducting baseline and follow-up interviews and examinations.
  • Manage the care of ALS patients during the course of their disease.
  • Other duties as assigned.
