About The Position

MercyOne is seeking a Research RN for their MercyOne Iowa Heart Center in West Des Moines. This role involves providing professional nursing care and managing adult patients enrolled in clinical research studies, adhering to established standards and practices. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, with a schedule of 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and does not require weekend or holiday work. Requirements

Current licensure as an R.N. in the state of Iowa or a compact state.
Valid Iowa Driver’s/Chauffeur’s License.
Must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
Must be at least 18 years of age and eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
Three years of RN nursing experience required.
Two years of critical care experience preferred or clinical cardiac equivalent experience required.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three (3) months of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certification or obtained by the end of the orientation period (approximately six (6) weeks).
Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
Level I Cardiac Arrhythmia class completion within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

Organizes research protocol, including obtaining consents.
Assists in preparing information for Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and manages correspondence between the IRB and drug companies.
Serves as the Iowa Heart Center's resource and liaison for all aspects of each protocol with patients, families, hospitals, office staff, physicians, pharmaceutical companies, and coworkers.
Completes all necessary paperwork related to research studies.
Coordinates all activities related to patients’ diagnostic testing, visits, and evaluations.
Organizes and assists with site visits from drug companies and monitors (CRA).
Organizes and participates in meetings for study orientation, updates, or reviews.
Provides backup and maintains an understanding of all other protocols for support and relief of primary nurses.
Conducts in-service education as needed.
Conducts patient phone calls or follow-up assessments as needed.
Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliation and certification.
Maintains statistical collection of all protocols.
Administers research protocols by identifying patients who meet inclusion/exclusion criteria and scheduling physician and lab visits.
Coordinates and/or performs other tests within and outside the clinic.
Maintains accurate documents, FDA records, and case form records.
Completes health and drug histories and disease assessments.
Reviews patient data for safety and administration purposes.
Makes corrections and clarifications of data for sponsor monitors.
Assesses learning needs of patients and significant others.
Teaches patients about medications and procedures of the protocol, providing accurate and complete information.
Obtains patient consent signatures after instruction is completed.
Writes patient consent forms to meet HIPAA, FDA, INH, and IRB requirements.
Follows guidelines for human subjects.
Travels to Iowa Heart offices as needed.
Is certified in handling, packing, and transportation of hazardous materials (e.g., blood).
