About The Position

We are seeking a dependable and motivated part-time staff member to manage the daily operations of the Zebrafish Core Facility at Creighton University. Responsibilities include routine animal care, such as feeding schedules, system and alarm checks, basic health assessments, and water-quality monitoring, as well as day-to-day facility operations, including routine system maintenance, communication with Animal Resource Facility and veterinary staff, supply ordering and inventory management, and assisting with troubleshooting. The role also involves caring for additional equipment within the Core and helping new users become familiar with facility procedures. This position is vital to ensuring system health, animal welfare oversight, quarantine practices, and regulatory compliance. Because new hires typically require several weeks to months to reach independence, comprehensive training will be provided and immediate full coverage is not expected. We are looking for a detail-oriented, communicative individual who is enthusiastic about contributing to a high-quality aquatic research environment. Under general supervision in the Coffin Lab, provides a wide variety of moderately complex laboratory testing and technical lab support for a research facility. Requires knowledge of the processes/procedures in testing, documenting experiments, maintaining laboratory notebook, analyzing data, and reporting using complex statistical computer software.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or 2 years of higher education.
  • 1 year of lab experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of the Zebrafish Core Facility.
  • Perform routine animal care, including feeding schedules, system and alarm checks, basic health assessments, and water-quality monitoring.
  • Conduct day-to-day facility operations, including routine system maintenance.
  • Communicate with Animal Resource Facility and veterinary staff.
  • Manage supply ordering and inventory.
  • Assist with troubleshooting facility issues.
  • Care for additional equipment within the Core.
  • Assist new users with facility procedures.
  • Ensure system health, animal welfare oversight, quarantine practices, and regulatory compliance.
