About The Position

This position will serve as a key laboratory management and research coordination role, working closely with the Principal Investigator and research team to support the laboratory's efficient operation and continued growth. Responsibilities include coordinating day-to-day laboratory operations; onboarding and training new members; scheduling laboratory meetings and activities; maintaining laboratory records and inventory; purchasing research supplies and equipment; communicating and negotiating with vendors; coordinating equipment service and maintenance; and facilitating interactions with collaborators, core facilities, and institutional administrative offices.
The Research Laboratory Manager will also assist with research project coordination, financial and administrative activities, preparation of manuscripts, presentations, reports, and grant-related materials, and long-range laboratory planning. Depending on experience and scientific background, the individual may participate directly in research activities, data analysis, experimental planning, and collaborative projects.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while effectively coordinating multiple research and administrative priorities in a collaborative academic research environment.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in a scientific field; related master's degree preferred.
• Five years of professional research experience.
• Three years of supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

• PhD or Master’s degree in a biomedical or related scientific field preferred.
• Prior experience managing or coordinating activities in an academic research laboratory is highly desirable.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Experience with laboratory purchasing, inventory, vendor coordination, budgeting, personnel onboarding and training, and research administration is preferred.
• Scientific experience in structural biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, virology, neuroscience, or related areas is advantageous.
• Experience supporting collaborative research projects, manuscripts, grant-related activities, and scientific presentations is also desirable.

Responsibilities

• Supervises staff (generally ten or more employees) in a large and/or complex research laboratory.
• Responsible for administrative, financial, staffing and planning aspects of research.
• Designs instrumentation, theoretical models, equipment and other vehicles for data gathering and analysis.
• Designs and applies scientific and numerical models in research.
• Oversees development and integrity of data collection and instruments.
• Conducts on-going, periodic and final analyses of data, using specialized techniques and programming.
• Writes and collaborates with other researchers on manuscripts, abstracts and other publications of research findings.
• Collaborates with other researchers on long-range plan for overall research.
• Performs related responsibilities as required.
