Research Lab Technician
About The Position
Performs highly skilled mechanical and/or analytical duties lead position in the coordination and completion of projects in a research lab or program. May supervise subordinate employees. Extract DNA using standard protocols from plant specimens and environmental sources Prepare and process biological samples for next-generation sequencing applications, including library preparation for high-throughput DNA sequencing using targeted sequence capture Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot low-volume liquid handling robots, DNA quantification instruments, Illumina sequencing platforms, and associated laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and data quality. Develop, optimize, validate, and implement experimental protocols, assays, and standard operating procedures (SOPs); maintain accurate laboratory records and prepare technical reports. Analyze and interpret sequencing data; communicate project status, results, and observations to core facility management, investigators, collaborators, and customers. Assist with research studies and experiments, modify protocols as needed, and provide technical expertise to investigators utilizing core facility services. Assist in the preparation of scientific manuscripts, grant applications, presentations, and reports; present findings at internal and external meetings and remain current with advances in high-throughput sequencing and related technologies. Train and mentor laboratory personnel, students, and collaborators in sample preparation, library construction, instrument operation, data analysis, and laboratory best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and two years experience; or a combination of education and/or related experience to equal six years.
