About The Position

Join the RiSE team at Microsoft Research and help shape the future of software engineering. Projects may cover theorem provers, program proof tools, new programming languages and paradigms, GPU programming, machine learning systems, software specification and testing, model-based testing, agentic engineering, agentic workflows, intent formalization, and related topics. Research interns work alongside doctoral candidates and researchers, applying inquiry and theory to research and development. During the 12-week internship, interns are paired with mentors, collaborate with other interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the research community. Research internships are available year-round, though they typically begin in the summer. Interns are expected to be physically located at their manager’s Microsoft worksite for the duration of the internship. Applicants must submit at least two reference letters, a cover letter, and relevant work or research samples. Reference requests may be sent after application submission, but may not be automatically requested for every candidate. Microsoft accepts applications and processes offers on an ongoing basis during the academic calendar (September–April). The position will be open for at least five days and applications are accepted until it is filled.
