Research Intern

Atom Computing•Cambridge, MA

About The Position

Atom Computing builds quantum computers using arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms. The Research Intern will contribute to the architecture and strategy of error correction on neutral-atom quantum computers, working with the Quantum Error Correction team on targeted research questions related to fault-tolerant quantum computing using neutral-atom hardware. The work supports the development of large-scale quantum computers with fault-tolerant, error-corrected logical qubits. The position seeks expertise in one or more areas including applications of machine learning or AI for quantum computing; quantum error-correction codes and fault-tolerant logic; magic-state production; synthesis and compilation of fault-tolerant algorithms; and the design, simulation, and execution of fault-tolerant protocols. This is a temporary summer internship. The hourly pay range is $50–$75, commensurate with education and relevant experience. Interns are not eligible for employee benefits, but have access to complimentary beverages, snacks, and catered lunches at the office.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with quantum error correction theory or experiment.
  • Familiarity with Python and Git software version control.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse team of experimental physicists, hardware engineers, and software engineers.
  • Self-motivated, humble, driven, and collaborative; temperamentally suited to work at a fast-growing startup.
