About The Position

A Research Instructor position is available in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at the University of Pittsburgh, within the laboratory of Dr. Stacy Gelhaus. This is an Appointment Stream position. The research focuses on the connection between metabolism and asthma, with specific attention to obesity and the microbiome. The role involves investigating how host and microbial metabolism changes affect lung function in murine models of asthma and asthma with obesity. Additionally, the lab explores the use of nitrated fatty acids as therapeutics in these models, studying their mechanisms of action concerning immune cell signaling and metabolism. The ultimate aim is to understand how nitrated fatty acids influence signaling to enhance lung function and to identify new interorgan interactions between the lung, liver, and gut microbiome.

Requirements

  • PhD in biochemistry, genetics, cell biology, or a related discipline.
  • 4+ years of postdoctoral research experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in immunology.
  • Demonstrated expertise in microbiology.
  • Demonstrated expertise in pulmonary function.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
