About The Position

The Research Fellow will conduct and analyze research data using Excel and other statistical packages. This role involves performing experiments as indicated by the supervisor, interpreting laboratory standard operating procedures, and following precautions according to environmental and good laboratory practices. The position requires maintaining clear laboratory records, preparing biological assays, and conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses. Additionally, the fellow will participate in literature reviews, lab meetings, and assist in the preparation of manuscripts and presentations. Duties also include laboratory maintenance, supply ordering, inventory updates, and preparing documents for inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all experiments as indicated by the supervisor.
  • Perform cell culture, grow bacterial stocks as needed, infect different cell types according to the experimental plan, and harvest samples for downstream processing.
  • Analyze research data using statistical packages and assist the PI in generating tables and figures for publications and grant applications.
  • Prepare biological assays and conduct basic quantitative and qualitative analyses.
  • Maintain clear laboratory records (both paper and electronic copies) of all tests performed and data collected and analyzed.
  • Interpret laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and assist the PI in drafting Notification of Use (NOUs) and developing SOPs for approval.
  • Follow precautions according to environmental and good laboratory practices.
  • Adhere to internal controls established for the department.
  • Conduct literature review and participate in weekly lab meetings and other collaborative meetings as needed.
  • Assist the PI in the preparation of manuscripts and participate in poster presentations at institutional and national meetings.
  • Perform all related duties as required and assigned by the PI.
  • Weekly cleaning and organizing of the research laboratory.
  • Weekly maintenance of the eye station.
  • Ordering lab supplies.
  • Updating inventories.
  • Preparing documents for lab inspections and maintenance.
