Job Summary Will conduct independent and collaborative research, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and the development of innovative solutions. The fellow will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and collaborate with a team of researchers. The Shalhout Lab is recruiting a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with expertise in small molecule drug discovery, molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or chemistry. Our group is developing innovative approaches to treat cancers by combining cutting-edge experimental biology with computational biology. We are seeking candidates with strong wet-lab skills who are excited to design, execute, and interpret experiments that drive therapeutic discovery.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Related Field of Study required
  • Previous Research experience 3-5 years preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in research techniques, methods, or research areas relevant to the project.
  • Proficient analytical skills, proficiency in statistical software, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • PhD in a relevant field (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Cancer Biology, or related discipline) with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications in areas such as drug discovery, small-molecule therapeutics, or translational oncology research.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and execute research experiments or projects in alignment with departmental goals.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret data using appropriate statistical methods and tools.
  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to inform research direction and methodologies.
  • Prepare and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences and seminars.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, students, and other researchers, contributing to a positive research environment.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, providing guidance on research methodologies and techniques.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and funding applications to support ongoing research.
  • Prepare periodic reports and documents summarizing research progress and outcomes.
  • Design and perform biophysical and biochemical assays, including protein purification, binding/interaction studies, cell reporter assays, and enzymatic assays.
  • Purify and characterize proteins for structural and functional studies.
  • Design and perform protein–protein and protein–ligand interactions (e.g., SPR, ITC, pull-downs, FRET).
  • Conduct cell-based functional assays such as reporter assays, qPCR, and molecular characterization of signaling pathways.
  • Carry out molecular biology techniques, including cloning, mutagenesis, and protein expression.
  • Perform mutagenesis and structure–function studies to map binding sites and mechanisms of action.
  • Support hit validation and lead optimization through iterative testing of small molecules.
  • Collaborate with medicinal chemistry and computational teams to prioritize candidates and refine drug design.
  • Basic understanding of biostatistics Analyze and interpret experimental data, present findings in lab meetings, publications, and conferences.
  • Collaborate with team members on projects linking experimental data to translational cancer research
