About The Position

The Garner Lab (www.rikkigarnerlab.org) in the Department of Molecular Biosciences at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a reliable and highly organized Lab Manager and Cell Culture Specialist to help build and support a new interdisciplinary research laboratory. The successful candidate will contribute to laboratory operations, ordering and organization, mammalian cell culture, and research support.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated reliability, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and recognize and respond to problems in a timely manner.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to perform and/or learn routine mammalian cell culture, including thawing, feeding, splitting/passaging, cryopreservation, and maintenance of cell lines (including stem cells).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with mammalian cell culture.
  • Experience with human pluripotent stem cells or hiPSCs is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with laboratory ordering, inventory systems, shared equipment, SOP development, contamination prevention, mycoplasma testing, cryopreservation, microscopy, or molecular biology is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain laboratory supplies and inventory; place and track orders; receive and organize supplies; maintain shared spaces, freezers, refrigerators, and common reagents; track equipment service and maintenance; help establish and maintain efficient laboratory workflows and recordkeeping systems.
  • Perform routine mammalian cell culture, including thawing, feeding, splitting/passaging, cryopreservation, and maintenance of cell lines.
  • Support experiments under established protocols and assist with molecular/cellular biology workflows.
  • Maintain careful records and follow rigorous aseptic technique and contamination-prevention procedures.
  • Assist with development and implementation of SOPs; maintain shared protocols and documentation; help train new laboratory members in routine laboratory procedures; support laboratory safety and compliance; assist with additional research and operational needs as appropriate.
