About The Position

The Research Engineer for Robotics & Autonomous Systems plays a key technical role within the Robotics & Computer Vision team at GE Vernova Advanced Research. This position works across Advanced Research, GE Vernova businesses, and external partners to define, build, and deploy advanced robotic and autonomous systems aligned with GE Vernova’s mission and the energy transition. The Robotics & Computer Vision team is known not only for technical excellence, but also for a collaborative, supportive culture. Requirements

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with experience in design and development of robotic systems or Master's Degree with at least 3 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with experience in design and development of robotic systems or Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with experience in design and development of robotic systems.
  • Strong execution track record.
  • Significant experience in electro-mechanical design, system integration, testing and troubleshooting, and mechanism design, including design, selection and integration of well-established and novel actuators, sensors and controllers.
  • Significant experience in integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components into reliable working systems while satisfying tight product design and manufacturing constraints.
  • Significant experience with designing and organizing field and production environment technology validations/demonstrations.
  • Significant experience working with and building soft robotic systems and actuators.
  • Significant experience in mechanical design in SolidWorks.
  • Experience in leading a technical team towards novel technology validations.
  • Experience programming in C/C++/Python.
  • Experience in CAD modeling.
  • Experience in path/motion planning, kinematic and dynamic modeling of robots, perception, graphical simulation, and GUIs.
  • Experience with computer vision, and machine learning.
  • Experience with reporting of project progress to executive-level stakeholders.
  • Experience with soil mechanics, field soil measurements and modeling actuator-soil interactions.
  • Experience in working with government stakeholders.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY
  • Must be 18 years or older

Responsibilities

  • Develop new technology concepts with strategic impact focused in robotics and autonomy, including design, analysis, integration and testing of electromechanical systems, mechanical, and fluidic (pneumatic/hydraulic) systems, motion planning, perception, manipulation, and human-robot interaction.
  • Lead projects, proposals, relationship building, and the development of new autonomous and robotic systems technology.
  • Lead design, selection, analysis, system integration/packaging and testing of electromechanical components and systems, including sensors, actuators, controllers, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and electromechanical systems, including conceptual design, detailed design, testing, validation, and product implementation.
  • Actively participate in design, architecture, and development efforts.
  • Engage with internal and external thought leaders across the robotics technology stack to drive new concepts and applications.
