About The Position

As a Research & Development Engineering Specialist, you will support the planning and execution of laboratory testing activities related to HVAC air moving products. Working within Price Research Centre North (PRCN), Price's research and testing laboratory, you will contribute to product development, validation, and innovation efforts that support multiple business units across the organization. In this role, you will work closely with design engineers and cross-functional teams to evaluate product performance, investigate technical challenges, develop new testing methods, and provide engineering data to support design decisions. This position combines hands-on laboratory work with analytical problem solving and is ideal for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude who enjoy understanding how products and systems operate.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Mechanical Engineering degree, Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma, Engineering Technology diploma. An equivalent combination of relevant technical education and hands-on mechanical experience may be considered.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with a passion for understanding how products and systems operate.
  • Ability to apply technical and engineering principles in a hands-on laboratory environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and process improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in product testing, manufacturing, or laboratory environments.
  • Experience working with motors, drives (VFDs), airflow systems, instrumentation, or industrial equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC products and industry standards (AMCA, ASHRAE, AHRI).
  • Experience with LabVIEW, PLCs, MATLAB, or data acquisition systems.
  • Knowledge of airflow, fan performance, fluid flow, or psychrometrics.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and execute performance testing on new and existing HVAC products.
  • Set up, modify, and maintain laboratory test fixtures and equipment.
  • Operate laboratory instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Ensure testing is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Analyze test data and prepare technical reports and certified performance data.
  • Investigate product performance and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues.
  • Support product development activities by providing technical recommendations based on testing results.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of testing methodologies.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to support product development initiatives.
  • Assist with laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration activities, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Contribute to improvements in laboratory processes, equipment, and testing capabilities.
  • Maintain laboratory documentation and support quality system requirements.
