About The Position

The Research Data Analyst (RDA) will support the Principal Investigator in a broad scope of research-related activities taking place in the United States. The RDA will plan, coordinate, and oversee data systems for research studies, including database set-up, data management, developing and pilot-testing questionnaires, conducting quality assurance, preparing recruitment reports, overseeing systems for data queries, and monitoring study retention. The RDA will function as a liaison between site data managers/programmers for the purposes of database creation and management, and will plan and coordinate weekly or semi-weekly meetings among data staff to track progress and troubleshoot issues. This position involves working with a variety of UCSF and non-UCSF faculty and staff to complete data entry and securely transfer data to approved academic partners. Study databases will be created and maintained in the UCSF secure research environment using RED-CAP. The RDA will oversee data entry, data management and storage, develop programming to generate weekly progress and monitoring reports, conduct data management and quality assurance, and provide technical assistance to research staff related to data entry and processing. The RDA will be responsible for using standard privacy and compliance procedures for the safe handling and use of electronic medical record and public health surveillance data for research purposes. The RDA may at times be required to conduct medical record chart reviews for completion of data elements and/or to assure data integrity. The incumbent will also develop tables, graphs, and contribute to analyses for reports and publications under the direction of the study PIs and study statistician; and perform other data management/department tasks as assigned to meet the overall data and technical needs of the program. This position requires the RDA work in the office a minimum of 4 days/week.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Working knowledge of research function
Working skills in system programming, database design and data security measures
Working skills in analysis and consultation
Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and written
Organizational skills to manage complex information
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, REDCap
Demonstrated ability to prepare tables, charts and graphs for use in publications and presentations
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a wide range of team members, including faculty investigators, programmers, community partners, and other data managers from diverse cultural backgrounds
Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly in spoken and written English

Responsibilities

Maintains and develops research data gathering, retrieval and reporting systems.
Responsible for developing and maintaining database architecture, which includes databases for participating study sites’ data, mechanisms for data harmonization, corresponding forms.
Work with partner data managers and programmers on the execution of data systems and collection, including timelines, deliverables and milestones, and oversee progress on these milestones.
Plans and coordinates weekly meetings with other data staff at UCSF and collaborating institutions to monitor progress, identify problem areas or data gaps and trouble-shoot solutions. Documents meeting discussion and outcomes.
Plans data management and quality assurance for studies, including the design of survey instruments and reporting procedures.
Works with study PI to program surveys in REDCap or other databases, developing processes for quality control and data edit checks at collaborating study sites.
Notes of errors and discrepancies, generates and edits reports and work with staff to make data clarifications and corrections.
Assists in developing systems for organizing data to analyze, identify and report trends.
Conducts ongoing quality control and assurance proactively identifying and analyzing data management and execution issues and coordinating problem resolution.
Prepares reports and / or analysis for internal department constituents.
Prepares reports on participant enrollment, retention, intervention uptake and other metrics. Creates derived variables and compiled datasets for analyses.
Cleans data and assembles analytical datasets.
Creates summary tables of participant characteristics and tables and figures for graphical display of the results of statistical analyses.
