About The Position

The Research Coordinator will provide support to the Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Investigators by coordinating materials development; collecting, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data (both qualitative and quantitative); and preparing detailed research reports and manuscripts. The Research Coordinator will also be involved in preparing major grant applications for submission, including coordinating meetings among the research team and drafting initial versions of applications for team and PI review. This role will support the program of research of the PI, which focuses on various topics in Health Professions Education (HPE). Current research projects range from strategic initiatives to map and coordinate research in HPE across Canada and capacity building for health services delivery in underserved populations through strategic changes in training programs for health professionals, to clinical reasoning and entrustment of postgraduate medical learners.

  • Experience writing ethics applications and grant applications.
  • Experience preparing manuscripts and PowerPoint presentations of research results.
  • Experience with the secure management of confidential research materials.
  • Strong understanding of UBC ethics protocols and strict adherence to data security and research ethics policies.
  • Experience in qualitative research, preferably in education, social sciences, and/or a health-related field.
  • Training and experience in research conducted in healthcare settings.
  • Comfort with medical terminology and the day-to-day functioning of healthcare systems and facilities.
  • Experience with qualitative analytical software (e.g., NVivo) considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures preferred; familiarity with file and records classification systems is an asset.
  • Commitment to enhancing awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct complex data collection, analysis, and interpretation. This will mostly consist of qualitative data, but may also include quantitative data analysis on occasion.
  • Oversee the progress of the PIs research projects and coordinate a broad range of complex research activities; including instrument and study material revision; conducting field observations and interviews; data collection and coordination; and data analysis using specialized research software, and maintaining field notes of activities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the collection, maintenance, interpretation, and reporting of these data.
  • Assist the PI in formulating study designs for the collection and interpretation of data.
  • Foster cooperative relationships with the full research team and other stakeholders to facilitate the flow of information and ideas, and ensure timely completion of the project.
  • Assist the PI with the preparation of grants to support research projects; preparation and dissemination of results including writing detailed research reports, and assisting in the drafting of ethics applications, as well as manuscripts for publication.
  • Maintain and secure data and files in strict adherence to the protocols established in the relevant ethics application and to CHES and UBC policies.
  • Provide general administrative and logistical support for the projects, as directed by the PI.
