About The Position

NYU Grossman School of Medicine is seeking a Research Coordinator to provide moderate to advanced coordination of research studies. This role involves assisting with recruitment, enrollment, grant submissions, data collection, and study coordination. The Research Coordinator will perform intra-operative monitoring, serve as a liaison with funding agencies, and ensure accurate execution of research protocols in accordance with Good Clinical Practices, HIPAA, and other obligations. The position requires direct interaction with patients/subjects and the Principal Investigator, and establishes liaisons with various internal departments such as Research Nurses, Research Pharmacists, and regulatory services. The role may also assist in the initiation and management of research studies and operates under general direction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in business administration, health care administration or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of progressively responsible project coordination experience, preferably in a research setting.
  • Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Familiar with Internet applications.
  • Effective oral, written, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Core Values and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
  • Oversee the submission of necessary documents required by the NYU Institutional Board (IRB), NYU Office of Clinical Trials and any other appropriate parties in order to obtain approval to conduct human subjects research.
  • Prepare, audit and submit monthly enrollment statistics to the Office of Clinical Trials, and provides other information in timely manner, as necessary.
  • Maintain awareness of study regulatory status and keep an up-to-date copy of regulatory documents.
  • Assist with the informed consent process and ensure that the patient/subject fully understands what is required of them throughout the study.
  • Follow through regularly with the patient/subjects reminding them of visits and compliance.
  • Monitor any outward effects or issues regarding patient/subject safety and report this to the Principal Investigator, Physician and Research Nurse.
  • Collect and audit patient information for the research project(s), including abstraction of data from patient charts, publications, or outside physician offices.
  • Audit and manage data from and into the database.
  • Prepare forms and reports, compile and analyze data, statistics, and other materials for reports.
  • Conduct study visits, obtain and document information within the time frame specified.
  • Screen potential patients/subjects for eligibility to the study, gathering information from medical records, physician referrals, advertisements, and scheduling visits.
  • Review all elements of the screening process with the Principal Investigator, including inclusion/exclusion criteria, informed consent, documentation of events, and patient/subject willingness to participate.
  • Develop competency in performing EEG and MRI assessments with infants and children, including required training and didactic competency tests.
  • Demonstrate competency in performing observational assessments with infants and children, communicate effectively with participants, and record data accurately.
  • Manage video data storage, provide oversight to behavioral coding projects, and score infant/child behavior as needed.
  • Engage in ongoing continuing education in all areas of research development.
  • Promote own professional growth and development in research role and maintain current expertise in area of practice.
  • Serve as a resource to peers and work collaboratively with other disciplines within the area of expertise.
  • Research, compile and consolidate data and conduct preliminary analyses for presentation to sponsoring and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide reports to all necessary parties on the progress of the study as needed.
  • Formulate, prepare database and generate preliminary measurement reports for review by PI.
  • Complete assessments on study subjects/patients following protocol (with proper training).
  • Prepare and submit grant applications and other grants related activities.
  • Collect and organize required paperwork for grant submission.
  • Follow up and coordinate resolution of all grant-related issues.
  • Report to the sponsors to fund medical research in the division.
  • Develop a preliminary draft budget and submit to the Director/Principal Investigator.
  • Review sponsor-proposed budget for adequate coverage and recommend changes as appropriate.
  • Assist in the preparation of funding reports to funding agencies and help identify new potential sponsors/agents for trials and researches.
  • Monitor budget throughout trial.
  • Combine and evaluate information and data to make decisions about relative importance of information and choosing the best solution to solve problems.
  • Resolve complex situations and refer non-solved issues and questions with recommendations to supervisor.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required.
  • Support new trainee onboarding and training, as required.
