About The Position

The Research Coordinator III independently coordinates assigned research activities and laboratory operations, functioning with minimal supervision and exercising independent judgment to ensure efficient and compliant research operations. This role involves ensuring compliance with laboratory regulations, managing business operations, supporting laboratory operations and record keeping, and overseeing animal care and colony management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Working knowledge of laboratory equipment purpose and use, including microscopes, centrifuges, and PCR machines.

Responsibilities

  • Independently coordinate assigned research activities and laboratory operations.
  • Ensure efficient and compliant research operations with minimal supervision.
  • Generate and submit protocols and protocol amendments to IACUC, IRB, and EH&S.
  • Liaise with staff and faculty in regulatory offices to ensure efficient protocol review.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with all required laboratory regulations (ACS, EH&S, IACUC, UF, State and Federal guidelines).
  • Maintain accurate records and legal documentation required by institutional policies.
  • Support submission and compliance of licenses/registrations for substances and materials.
  • Manage ordering processes for efficient and cost-effective use of grant funding.
  • Maintain lab supply inventory.
  • Research and evaluate new products, compare and negotiate vendor prices.
  • Order reagents and materials to support lab operations.
  • Document and reconcile transactions within myUFMarket and UFGo.
  • Book travel for laboratory personnel and generate travel authorizations.
  • Support the direction of lab staff in experiments to develop and validate new gene therapies.
  • Train lab staff in related methods.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to lab staff.
  • Provide proper instruction on lab equipment use and maintenance.
  • Provide oversight to ensure accurate and thorough record keeping.
  • Aid the PI in the organization of data.
  • Prepare reports and graphs as requested by the PI.
  • Assist in maintaining mouse colony and efficient management of mouse strains.
  • Perform and oversee pre- and post-operative animal care, including rodent surgical procedures.
  • Coordinate animal care between the lab and institutional animal care staff.
