About The Position

This position provides regional coordination of activities, data collection, and communications between BMP project leaders and stakeholders in the Suwannee Valley. The role involves coordinating regional BMP project activities, summarizing field studies and demonstrations, and documenting on-farm demonstrations related to production, nutrient and water use efficiency, yield, and management of various crops. The coordinator will document new or improved best management practices adopted by farmers, focusing on nutrient and water use efficiency, and disseminate findings to stakeholders and farmers to encourage adoption. The position also requires collecting and maintaining accurate records of BMP activities, preparing findings and summaries, and maintaining a digital photo history of BMP trials. Progress toward BMP adoption and nitrogen-load reductions on farms will be documented. The role involves organizing information from various platforms into reports for different audiences and utilizing agricultural technologies and software. Additional duties as required for programming needs are also part of the role. A valid driver's license is required to travel to work sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

  • Familiarity with understanding applied agricultural field research trials, Extension demonstrations, and/or agribusiness.
  • Experience with a wide variety of crops and best management practices.
  • Excellent communication skills to communicate daily with UF/IFAS/NFREC-SV faculty and staff, colleagues, and farmer clientele.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regional coordination of activities, data collection, and communications between BMP project leaders and stakeholders in the Suwannee Valley.

  • Document on-farm demonstrations for BMP projects related to production, nutrient and water use efficiency, yield and management of vegetable, field, and row crops.
  • Document new or improved best management practices being adopted by commercial vegetable, field, and row crop farmers, focusing on nutrient and water use efficiency.
  • Disseminate findings on BMPs to stakeholders and farmers for adoption of BMPs.
  • Collect and maintain accurate records that document ongoing BMP activities.
  • Prepare and maintain findings, summaries, and notes.
  • Maintain basic digital photo history of BMP trials.
  • Document progress toward adoption of BMPs and nitrogen-load reductions on farms in the region.
  • Organize information from different platforms and process into a report that can be understood by various audiences.
  • Utilize various AG technologies and software.
  • Perform other duties as required for programming needs and accomplishment of the responsibilities and function of his/her area.
  • Drive to various work sites.
