About The Position

The School of Nursing is seeking a temporary Research Coordinator 1 to provide professional-level support for a research study involving human subjects. This role will focus on the grant titled “A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial to Support Parent-Child Relationships Among Families with Elementary School-Aged Children Referred to Child Welfare,” known as "Thriving in the School Years." The study pilots Promoting First Relationships® School-Age (PFR-S), an evidence-based program adapted for families with older children in the Child Protective Services (CPS) system. The primary responsibilities include creating REDCap projects, facilitating study recruitment of families, and assisting in establishing coding protocols and coding videotaped parent-child interactions.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree AND two years of experience in a research position (e.g., Research Study Assistant, Research Study Coordinator) OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Experience as a current or previous Washington State Children’s Administration/Department of Children, Youth, & Families (DCYF) and/or Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) vetted employee or volunteer as required by our Washington State Institutional Review Board (WSIRB) approved protocol, and knowledge of confidentiality within the DCYF environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create REDCap projects for all aspects of the study
  • Serve as the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) liaison for study recruitment
  • Establish parent-child interaction coding protocol and scoring
  • Create REDCap projects for recruitment, consenting, randomization, research questionnaires (Time 1 and Time 2), PFR-S intervention monitoring, and subject contact information.
  • Establish and monitor access and security for REDCap projects.
  • Test and troubleshoot all REDCap projects.
  • Make ongoing revisions to REDCap projects as necessary.
  • Back up all REDCap projects and data on a monthly basis.
  • Travel to the DCYF Lynnwood office to access and conduct work.
  • Receive confidential client lists of families potentially eligible for the study from the DCYF data manager.
  • Using Microsoft Excel, merge each client list with previously obtained lists to identify new families and omit previously contacted families.
  • Coordinate WSIRB-approved opt-out letter mailing for all newly identified families on the list.
  • Print letters, address and stamp envelopes, and take them to the post office for mailing.
  • Check for opt-out replies via email, text message, and phone.
  • Compile a listing of all families on the current list that did not opt out of hearing about the study and send the password-protected and secure contact list to the UW study recruitment coordinator.
  • Create recruitment reports.
  • Serve on the team to develop the coding scheme for the parent-child videotaped teaching interaction.
  • Provide expertise and insight based on experience with other studies.
  • Code videotapes as time allows, or train other staff to code.
