About The Position

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Virginia is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the lab of Dr. Zhou. This role involves experimental design, statistical analysis, lab duties, manuscript and grant drafting, and attending oral and poster presentations. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator who works well in a team setting and possesses strong basic science knowledge using advanced techniques in ophthalmology/vision science and vascular biology. Postdoctoral employment is temporary, typically for individuals with a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the last five years, and involves full-time research or scholarship under the supervision of a senior scholar. This position is viewed as training and preparatory for an academic or research career, allowing the appointee to publish their research findings.

Requirements

Doctoral degree
Strong basic science knowledge
Advanced techniques in ophthalmology/vision science and vascular biology
Significant animal handling
Genotyping
Tissue harvest
Histology
In vivo imaging
Solid cell biology including cell isolation, cell culture, cell transfection, FACS, and confocal microscopy
Molecular biology experience in RNA isolation, qRT-PCR, protein immunoblotting, scRNA-seq prep and analyses
Strong communication skills
Ability to work well in a team setting
