About The Position

The University of South Florida (USF) is seeking an Open Rank-Research Associate to join their research team. This position will involve teaching medical students and residents, conducting research on the malaria parasite, and assisting faculty with grant preparation and publication submissions. The role also includes supervising graduate students or post-doctoral fellows in molecular biology research. The position reports to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator and is responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities, as well as academic advising.

Requirements

PhD, MD, MD/PhD terminal degree from an accredited institution in medicine or life sciences, biology, or related discipline.
At least five years relevant research experience in molecular biology and parasitology.
Experience with molecular laboratory techniques, including aseptic culture and molecular genetics of the malaria parasite.

Nice To Haves

Strong track record of peer reviewed publications in parasitology.
Experience in malaria parasite culture
Experience in genetic manipulation of the malaria parasite
Expertise in genomics data.
Experience in CRISPR/cas9 design
Experience participating on funded projects.

Responsibilities

Teach medical students and residents about in-patient and out-patient internal medicine, with a majority of effort involving supervising internal medicine residents in an in-patient setting.
Precept medical students in an ambulatory clerkship.
Assist in molecular studies of the malaria parasite.
Create and implement a research plan on functional genomics of the parasite.
Assist USF Health faculty in grant preparation and publication submission.
Supervise graduate students or post-doctoral fellows in molecular biology of the malaria parasite.
Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
May represent the university, college/school, or department.
