About The Position

The Beirne Carter Center for Immunology Research (CIC) at the University of Virginia is seeking a Research Associate to join the research group of Dr. Coleen McNamara. This position will focus on the analysis of coronary artery computed tomography (CCTA) and the investigation of immune system contributions to human coronary artery disease using single-cell analytics and genetics. The role involves working with Drs. Nisha Hosadurg and Todd Villines, analyzing CCTA images, interpreting findings, and conducting scientific investigations on biospecimen and clinical data. The position offers an opportunity for candidates with an MD or PhD to engage in high-quality research and contribute to novel bench-to-bedside discoveries in cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (MD or PhD, or equivalent degree in a relative scientific field of study)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven grant writing skills is also important (e.g., post-doctoral awards and/or submitted PI-level grants).
  • Highly motivated to develop new research avenues.
  • Candidates who have obtained their MD or PhD and within the past four years.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in CCTA imaging and analysis
  • Experience in CCTA imaging and human translational research.

Responsibilities

  • Full-time research or scholarship at the University.
  • Preparatory for a full-time academic or research career.
  • Supervised by a senior scholar; and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship.
  • Strong time management and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Assist with maintenance and upkeep of laboratory, as applicable
  • Other duties may be assigned.
